02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

We run the Blackford Highland Games. This is held annually on the last Saturday in May. This is primarily a sporting event including athletics (running, jumping, cycling) and heavy events (such as caber tossing) but also competitions in Highland Dancing and in Piping. The games are funded by donations, grants, sponsorship, and entry payments from visitors. The games also attracts traders such as craft stands.

Constitutional objectives

4 The organisation's purposes are: 4.1 To advance public participation in sport and cultural activities by organising, promoting and running the annual Blackford Highland Games in the village of Blackford. 4.2 To advance knowledge and understanding of the heritage and culture of Scotland through an appreciation of the history and tradition of the sporting and other activities at highland games. 4.3 To support by way of grant or otherwise any charity, organisation, activity or project which advances the citizenship or community development within the Blackford area, in particular through the maintenance or improvement of the physical, social or economic infrastructure and amenity.
