02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The residents of Bandrum Nursing Home range in age from 25 to 95. The older residents and some under 65 are living with dementia. The larger unit houses younger residents who will be at the nursing home for many years. Many are physically fit and active apart from their specific disabilities. Our charity exists to ensure that all residents can live as full a life as possible and are not held back by financial constraints. Every year each resident gets an individual present and the opportunity to go to a pantomime or a show. We respond to requests from clinical staff for special equipment or funds to pay for escorted trips to go shopping or attend a football match. We hold fetes and art fairs three times a year at which craft items made by the residents are sold. All this helps give autonomy and independence to people who have been dependent on others for many years.
