02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The charity was set up to regenerate what was a historically significant, but later neglected, part of the town. Its objectives were to develop the harbour area as a community asset and use it to broaden awareness of the value of its maritime heritage and natural environment. This was, and continues to be, achieved through involving the public in activities such as coastal rowing, using boats built by the group, our annual Harbour Festival and Solstice Walk, and regular harbour markets, along with craft workshops and environmental activities such as water testing and bird counts. We now have the funding and plans to move forward in the development of the building and land we were able to acquire and are looking forward to fulfilling the long standing ambition of bringing these into purposeful use for the benefit of all.
