02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

We are a community library and information centre. We lend books and DVDs, have visits from the local primary school, run bookbug sessions, provide free wifi/computer access, tourist information, accessible toilets and baby changing facilities, and hold informative lectures by guest speakers.

Constitutional objectives

The organisation's purposes are: 4.1 The advancement of education through the provision of educational materials, provision of classes and study opportunity 4.2 The advancement of citizenship and community development by providing a community hub and the organisation being based on a voluntary model. 4.3 The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture and science through the provision of information, both local and broader, and with the aim of becoming a heritage centre for Pittenweem 4.4 The organisation and provision of recreational facilities by offering educational and vocational classes of various types and an aim to provide a library service to residents who cannot attend in person due to ill health or disability 4.5 The advancement of environmental protection or improvement in the aim of providing a centre for energy advice 4.6 Relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage by providing a library service which is free at the point of use and will additionally be taken to people in their homes who cannot attend in person because of disadvantage.
