02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

A Men’s Shed is a community-based, non-profit, non-commercial organisation accessible to all individuals providing a safe, friendly and healing environment where people are able to work on meaningful projects at their own pace in their own time in the company of other people. We aim to provide a supportive environment for people to gather, volunteer, work, teach, learn and seek fellowship with other like-minded people. We are a group who meet weekly to talk and do some wood work or other practical activities. While our principal aim is to provide recreational activities, we hope to help older people overcome social isolation and loneliness. There is a recognised need for more opportunities for older people, particularly men, to take part in activities locally.
