02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Gordon Common Good SCIO is a volunteer-run charity serving the village of Gordon in the Scottish Borders. Our main activity is looking after Gordon Village Hall and keeping it available as an affordable, welcoming space for the whole community including clubs, classes, private celebrations and village events alike. By maintaining the hall and making it easy to use, we help local groups stay active, bring people together, and keep a sense of community spirit alive in the village. Alongside the hall, we have widened what we do to support community life more broadly. This includes community events such as Gowkfest (an outdoor music festival) and the annual Flower Show, and a small community grants fund offering practical support to local projects and groups whose work benefits people in and around Gordon.

4. The organisation’s purposes are: 4.1. The advancement of community development. 4.2. The provision of recreational facilities for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended And in furtherance of 4.3. To foster a community spirit through achievement of these and other such objectives as may be deemed to be charitable and for the benefit of the community resident in the neighbouring districts. 4.4. To manage and maintain a community centre (known as GORDON VILLAGE HALL) for activities undertaken in furtherance of these objectives. 4.5. To establish and operate a community grant-making fund, providing financial support to projects, groups, or organisations whose activities further the purposes of the organisation
