02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The charity was formed to benefit the community of Blackhall, Edinburgh, which comprises the Blackhall School catchment area with the following objects: 1. to advance community development within the community, including urban regeneration. 2. to advance education, including early years and community learning, for the benefit of the public. 3. to provide facilities for recreation, sport and other leisure activities for the health and wellbeing of the public. To that end, the charity has used the community asset transfer process to take ownership of a building within the community (transfer completed in January 2026) and is developing plans for a replacement building to better deliver on the foregoing objectives.

Constitutional objectives

4 The company has been formed to benefit the community of Blackhall, Edinburgh, defined by the postcode units listed in Appendix 1 (which includes the Blackhall School catchment area) (“the Community”) with the Purposes listed in the sub-articles hereto (“the Purposes”), to be exercised following the principles of sustainable development (where sustainable development means development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs), namely: (1) To advance community development within the Community, including urban regeneration. (2) To advance education, including early years and community learning, for the benefit of the public. (3) To provide facilities for recreation, sport and other leisure activities for the health and wellbeing of the public. But only to the extent that the above purposes are consistent with furthering the achievement of sustainable development.
