02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
LING is a community-led organisation created to benefit the people and community of New Galloway and the wider Glenkens. We work to improve community wellbeing, reduce social isolation, increase participation and volunteering, and strengthen local community capacity. LING owns and operates New Galloway Town Hall, secured through Community Asset Transfer in 2022. We use the Town Hall as a sustainable community hub, providing accessible space for community groups, activities, events, meetings and services. We deliver our aims by organising and supporting community activities, providing opportunities for people to meet, learn and participate, supporting volunteers and local groups, and working with partner organisations to respond to local needs. Our work includes community meals and social activities, wellbeing initiatives, heritage activity and support for local organisations.

Constitutional objectives
4. The association’s purposes are: The promotion for the benefit of the public of rural regeneration in areas of social and economic deprivation (and in particular in the Royal Burgh of New Galloway and Kells Parish, Dumfries and Galloway) by any of the following means a. The advancement of citizenship and community development within the Royal Burgh of New Galloway and Kells Parish, including the advancement of rural regeneration through community-led initiatives, facilities, activities and services which promote social, economic and environmental wellbeing[JM1.1] b. The maintenance, improvement or provision of public amenities and facilities in the Royal Burgh of New Galloway and Kells c. The provision of recreational facilities for the public at large or those who by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances, have need of such facilities d. The preservation of buildings in the area which are of historic or architectural importance, especially the New Galloway Town Hall.
