02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Friends of Garnethill Green Spaces (FROGGS) was set up in response to local concerns about the lack of green spaces in our city centre gem of a place, Garnethill. Of those few green spaces that existed, many seemed unloved. We have some of the city’s finest buildings, but we want Garnethill to become just as well known for beautiful gardens, nurtured wildlife, unique and cared for green sites, vibrant community interaction with the green environment and development of skills. At the same time we want to embrace current social issues in relation to health, well-being, sustainability and environment. The objectives of FROGGS are to improve and maintain green areas of Garnethill for the well-being of a’ Jock Tamson’s bairns:

Constitutional objectives

1.1 The objectives of FROGGS are to improve and maintain green areas of Garnethill by: ? Developing, maintaining and nurturing existing green areas, including, gardens, public spaces and stalled sites. ? Creating pleasant leisure areas for the enjoyment of residents, students, workers and other Garnethill friends. ? Improving provision and upkeep of play structures for all ages. ? Creating and maintaining habitats conducive to the proliferation of wildlife. ? Stimulating sustainable approaches and technologies. ? Acting as a catalyst for artistic and cultural events across various locations in both the green spaces and built environment of Garnethill. ? Cultivating community interaction through the natural environment. ? Campaigning to save protect and adopt undeveloped and neglected land and green spaces for the benefit of the wider community. 1.2 Aims to promote social inclusion, bringing together residents of Garnethill community and advancing community development.
