02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Maxwelton Chapel and its grounds will be looked after by the trust for the benefit of the local and wider community. Regular services are held there and the Chapel may be used by all recognised Christian faiths for worship. The grounds are open to the public.

Constitutional objectives

The purposes of the SCIO are:- (i) to own, maintain and preserve the historic Maxwelton Chapel and its grounds for the benefit of the public. (ii) to make the Maxwelton Chapel and its grounds available to the public for visiting at reasonable times throughout the year. (iii) to promote and facilitate the use of the Maxwelton Chapel for those adhering to the Christian faith for public or private religious ceremonies and services. and (iv) to promote similar charitable purposes, objects or institutions in such proportions and manner as the Trustees think fit.
