02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Green Hive specialises in volunteer-led projects and other community initiatives that help to protect, restore and sustainably develop the public spaces and rural habitats of Nairn and Nairnshire - cultivating skills, building social connections and improving health and wellbeing outcomes for residents and visitors. In November 2022 we took ownership of Seaman’s Hall in Nairn. As well as providing rentable spaces for local groups, Seaman’s Hall is a base of operations for our own programmes for volunteers. The Green Hive Community Workshop at the Balmakeith Industrial Estate on the eastern side of Nairn is a community making-space and social enterprise. Here we support participation, skills development and positive environmental action by working with volunteers to take discarded plastics out of the local ecosystem - converting these into useful everyday items for sale.
