02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The aims of Building Bridges are to build bridges to a better quality of life for people aged 16+ with learning physical and emotional disabilities and also for their carers. We do this by providing opportunities and experiences through a range of social, leisure and educational activities, enhancing intergration, reducing isolation and increasing awareness within our community.

Constitutional objectives

4 The organisation's purposes are: The relief of those in need by reason of disability who are resident within the Strathearn area of Perth and Kinross. 4.1 To provide a focus for community based initiatives to support people with learning and/or other disabilities and their carers, to enhance integration, to reduce isolation and to increase community awareness. 4.2 To build bridges between local organisations (charitable, commercial and social) and with those with learning and/or other disabilities and their carers. 4.3 To encourage people who provide services to deliver support that actively responds to the needs of people with learning and/or other disabilities. 4.4 To raise, or support the raising, of funds for local community based initiatives, which will be initiated, led and developed by those with learning and/or other disabilities and their carers. 4.5 To reflect the local priorities as expressed by those with learning and/or other disabilities or their carers in determining the services which should be supported or developed.
