02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Cycling Without Age Scotland (CWAS) works nationwide, providing free rides in pioneering e-bike Trishaws. These rides improve the mental and physical wellbeing of people, mainly the elderly, who face mobility challenges and/or loneliness. They bring together volunteers and beneficiaries to build strong friendships. CWAS delivers c.32,000 rides annually, enriching the lives of at least 45,000 passengers each year and of c.1,200 volunteers who are enjoying high level fulfilment in a unique way. We help volunteers to reach their potential through specialised training and employability and life skills e.g. leadership, empathy and self-confidence. Our ever-growing volunteer base includes Pilots, Co-Pilots, Co-Passengers, and administrators, across generations from teens to 80s. CWAS started with 5 Trishaws in 1 branch/Chapter in Falkirk. We now operate 150 Trishaws and 7 Wheelchair Transporters in 96 Chapters in almost every part of Scotland. CWAS enriches, enhances and extends lives.

Constitutional objectives
The organisation's purposes are: 4.1 to advance health. 4.2 to advance citizenship and promote volunteering, maximising fulfilment and stimulation to those participating. 4.3 to provide recreational facilities in order to improve the conditions of life for the people for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended. and 4.4 to relieve those in need by reason of age, ill-health disability or other disadvantage. through the provision of rides and excursions, primarily using bicycle-based “trishaws” but also wheelchair transporters, walking aids or any other vehicle or device that supports the organisation in achieving its purposes, either by offering these services directly or working with delivery partners across Scotland
