02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Band was formed in 1982 by five individuals (of which the two surviving are still members to date). Since its inception, the primary focus of the Band has been to provide quality piping and drumming tuition to members of the community entirely free of charge. The Band attained charitable status on 09 February 2018.. Our organisation’s charitable purpose seeks to offer free tuition to anyone - free from any discrimination – in our community. Our community is the entire North Ayrshire Council area, although it is worth highlighting that we are the only organisation which presently offers piping and drumming tuition in Irvine, Dreghorn, or Kilwinning. The North Ayrshire School’s teaching system is non-existent in our immediate catchment area, meaning that our organisation is the only viable source of free tuition in the area.
