02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The charity provides a community hub for Gardenstown and the vicinity. Throughout the year, the charity fulfils its remit by organising events and facilitating the meeting of local interest and social groups. The events include concerts involving local choirs and musicians, a weekly knitting and sewing group, a weekly games and pool evening, a monthly music session, occasional coffee mornings, hosting local crafters during the annual Gamrie Creatives weekend, hosting meetings of the Community Council, hosting meetings of the local Alcoholics Anonymous, holding annual Christmas and Hogmanay events and providing a platform for discussion and organisation within the community when the need arises. In this regard, we have strong links with the Heritage Centre and are involved in most of the cultural events in the village with music, storytelling or poetry. The community hub is based at the Little Schoolie, a building at the centre of the traditional part of the village.
