02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

We are a group of cancer patients & survivors who are passionate about helping others affected by cancer according to their individual needs. We work to ensure lived experience is placed at the heart of service design and delivery in cancer care, representing the cancer lived experience on a variety of platforms, acting to make a meaningful contribution to decision making. At the CANDU Wellbeing Hub we offer free practical and emotional support including 1-2-1 (By Your Side peer befriending programme) and group peer support sessions, wellbeing activities (complementary therapies, ‘Living well with Cancer’ mindfulness and nutrition courses, therapeutic arts and crafts) and social support drop-in sessions. We provide community outreach activities including home visits, community drop in café’s, care package deliveries, online support sessions and volunteer-led transport for people experiencing isolation due to their cancer diagnosis.
