02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Our charity exists to develop and promote schools debating across Scotland. We provide workshops, outreach programmes and training to help pupils build confidence, critical thinking and communication skills. We run selection, coaching and development for the Scottish national schools debating team and development squad. We also create opportunities for pupils from all backgrounds to take part in high-level national and international debating competitions and support them to achieve success at these events.

Constitutional objectives
The charitable purpose of SSD will be to develop schools debating in Scotland through outreach initiatives. It will enable pupils who attend schools in Scotland to participate in International debating competitions for schools and will aim to maximise their success at such events.
