02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

YMCA Edinburgh SCIO exists to help provide support and scaffolding around the lives of children, young people and families to help them develop and thrive. This takes place through a range of needs-led services, working together in a whole family approach. Committed to empowerment, where possible we work with participants to allow them a platform for their voice in influence community developments and decisions as well as the direction of YMCA Edinburgh.

Constitutional objectives

4.1 Provide recreational and educational opportunities, in a safe environment, to support the advancement of young people. It aims to help them reach their full potential by enabling them to overcome barriers such as deprivation, age, ill health, disability, lack of education, financial hardship, racial or sex discrimination. 4.2 Promote citizenship and develop community spirit by encouraging young people to consider their environment. 4.3 Make available information and materials in relation to Christianity for those who wish further knowledge. The Association, through the managing trustees of the City of Edinburgh Methodist Church, shall apply for membership of Scottish National Council YMCA, (SC004425) (?The National Council?) and shall be bound by the provisions of the Constitution of that Council, including in particular Conditions of Membership of The National Council, as comprised in Appendix D thereto, and for reference set out in Appendix A hereto.
