The charity's primary purpose is to help to improve the lives of people undertaking outdoor recreational activities by providing them with a good base from which they can pursue such activities.

Constitutional objectives
The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities ,with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended. In furtherance of this purpose but not otherwise the organisation will : Run , maintain and improve the property (?the Hut?) purchased in 1965 or any other property purchased , leased or held to provide accommodation for mountaineers and others interested in outdoor recreation, to a standard befitting a memorial to those mountaineers who died in the Second World War. Provide facilities for outdoor recreation in the hills and mountains and for education in mountain safety. The facilities are primarily intended for mountaineers , climbers, hill walkers and participants in related outdoor activities as established by membership of the British Mountaineering Council, Mountaineering Scotland or affiliated clubs of these bodies ,or other recognised clubs committed to outdoor activities and in membership of a national sporting body. Provide facilities to encourage young and disadvantaged persons to experience the hills and mountains under recognised supervision.
