02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
We are a community-led charity that manages three vital local assets: Stormont Hall, Gretna Green Playing Field, and the adjoining changing rooms. The Stormont Hall and the playing field are owned outright by the Trust, while the changing rooms are leased from Dumfries and Galloway Council on a peppercorn long lease. The Trust's purpose is to provide recreational facilities that improve the quality of life for local residents. The Stormont Hall hosts community groups, private hires, and social events, while the playing field and changing rooms support any local sports clubs, training sessions, and outdoor community gatherings. Run by a dedicated group of volunteer Trustees and members, the SGGCAT ensures these spaces remain accessible, well-maintained, and at the heart of everyday life in Springfield and Gretna Green, and support social, sporting, and community activity for people of all ages.
