02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

We reduce isolation & loneliness by bringing people together each weekday to enjoy fresh nutritious food that we grow in our community garden, & by arranging before & after lunch activities. We welcome 160 people each week, of all ages (people living with dementia, with life-long conditions, wheelchair users, or with profound and complex learning difficulties, widows, people with mental health problems.) We are helping to reduce the associated issues caused by loneliness such as reduced risk of heart disease and stroke, lowered cholesterol, increased self-esteem, reduced depression. People who join us are eating healthier, exercising with us and are going on outings . People are feeling happier. The feeling of belonging within our community has and does make an enormous difference to people who join us. We have a partnership with local Compass School to bring pupils and our participants together to enjoy activities allowing meaningful friendships to be formed across the ages.
