02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The charitys primary purpose is the advancement of religion, not to a particular group, but for the benefite of the community. The Senatus of Scotland oversee the Legion Groups, Praesidia, based in Parishes all over Scotland. Praesidia meet weekly and members, Legionaries, undertake definitive tasks such as visiting lonely and elderly in their own homes and care homes. Promotion of prayer in homes and schools, evangelisation by crowd contact, speaking to people in the parks in summer morths and at Christmas cribs.

Constitutional objectives

(FIRST) the Trust Estate shall be held in trust for the charitable and religious purposes of The Legion of Mary in Scotland. (SECOND) the Trustees may apply the capital, or income of the Trust funds in the furtherance of the foregoing purposes as they in their absolute discretion shall deem proper and without prejudice to the forgeoing generality they may expend the whole or part of the Trust Estate or income therefrom in the purchase or Lease of heritable premises in Scotland for use for the purposes of the Legion of Mary or in the maintenance, repair and decoration of such premises or in contributing to any other person or body towards the running expenses of such heritable premises in Scotland or in making contributions to any charitable or religious bodies in Scotland having aims and purposes of a like nature to those of The Legion of Mary in Scotland.
