02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Disability Sport Fife has been leading the development of inclusive sport and physical activity opportunities for children, young people, and adults with physical, sensory, and learning disabilities in Fife since 1977. DSF (SCIO) supports individuals with disabilities to overcome barriers to participation in sports and physical activity, reduce social isolation, increase physical health and well-being, and improve mental health. Through engagement with key stakeholders such as health, education, social care, local clubs, and sport’s governing bodies we strive to create a sustainable organisation, continuously expanding our weekly sessions program and annual calendar of events, supported by a dedicated team of qualified coaches and volunteers while also supporting individuals to access mainstream opportunities.

Constitutional objectives

The Organisation is a non-profit distributing charity whose principal purposes are: To advance health by actively engaging with the community to inspire an active, healthier lifestyle in individuals by encouraging people to take part in active recreation activities. to advance participation in amateur sport by encouraging participation in all sports and physical recreation activities for people with disabilities in Fife. to support, develop and progress players and participants to achieve their full potential at their desired level as a means to advance citizenship in the interests of social welfare to improve the quality of life. The advancement of education through the provision and development of appropriate opportunities that encourage participation, coaching and training in recreational and competitive sports. to support member clubs to develop such opportunities. and to support local partnerships and initiatives prioritising resources for sports education and training. To advance citizenship and community development by assisting voluntary, charitable, socially enterprising and community sporting organisations to thrive and develop through the provision of low-cost services and facilities which will strengthen the contribution to the economic, social and cultural development of Fife and the surrounding communities to facilitate increased cohesion.
