02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The charity is set up to use and promote the garden as a historic greenspace. It is open for volunteers on 4 days a week and visitors on afternoons at the weekend. Visitors can enjoy the garden at events such as our regular mid-summer picnic and also attend workshops on flower arranging, mushroom growing and dye plants. Volunteers assist with production of local food and help to maintain and increase biodiversity. A recent development has been a Citizen Science project involving recording butterflies and moths in the garden. We enable visits from students to learn about the garden and to volunteer and nursery children regularly enjoy visiting the garden.
