What the charity exists to do

To promote and preserve the heritage and culture of Scalpay and its people

Constitutional objectives

4.1 The advancement of the heritage, language, culture, arts, through the provision of exhibitions, events, facilities and other services relating to the historical, geographical and cultural importance of the Isle of Scalpay and the creation of a dedicated heritage centre and archive. 4.1.1 to bring together, hold, adequately house, conserve and document a collection of specimens being of historical, artistic or scientific importance, and in respect of which there will be a strong presumption against the subsequent disposal of any item. 4.1.2 to adopt a written collecting policy and review it at least every five years, which policy shall define the types of specimens which the Society wishes to include in the collection and the geographical area from which such specimens may be drawn. 4.1.3 to maintain an accurate and current register of all specimens acquired for, or removed from the collection 4.2 The advancement of education providing a better understanding of the built and natural environment, culture, heritage and history of the Isle of Scalpay as well as the development of individual skills, capabilities and understanding. 4.3 The provision of recreational and social facilities and activities to improve the lives of the inhabitants of the area and the public in general through the provision of a heritage centre.
