02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Our charity is set up to provide advise and guidance on environmental and public health matters to Scottish local authorities, Scottish Government, government departments and agencies. We promote the consistency of Environmental Health Services by the production of protocols and model standards. We monitor the effectiveness of Environmental Health Services by means of regular surveys. We provide informed briefings related to the management of Environmental Health Services and monitor workforce planning, vacancy management etc. We manages the distribution of 'restricted funds' to support the training of student Environmental Health Officers, trainee Food Safety Officers and Modern Apprentices. We also provide financial support for the 'management' training of qualified staff. As far as possible we ensure that local authorities in Scotland provide training opportunities and work placements for students and trainees pursuing a career in Environmental Health.
