02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Abundant Borders works within our community to create a network of community food gardens across the Scottish Borders. The community food gardens are a training base for people to learn how to grow food in a sustainable way and then how to turn that food into healthy, inexpensive meals. Our aim is that everyone, regardless of personal circumstances, should have access to healthy, nutritious food.

4 The organisation's purposes are: 4.1 The advancement of education by training people to produce food in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way Our activities can reasonably be expected to also promote: 4.2 The relief of poverty, specifically food poverty, through the development of skills, including but not restricted to, food growing, preservation and cooking 4.3 Environmental protection and improvement by, for example, teaching the benefits of wildlife to food production and by creating healthy soil ecosystems 4.4 The use of land for recreational purposes by, for example, the creation of community gardens and other growing spaces.
