02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
We are a team of volunteers who provide a search and rescue capability across all of Caithness & Sutherland. We have a main base at Inchnadamph, Sutherland, and a new base in Thurso, Caithness. We are competent mountaineers with skills in search, first aid and communications. We are trained and equipped to provide assistance as required by Police Scotland in any weather, all year. We provide technical cliff or mountain rescue, search for missing or vulnerable people, and any rescue required in remote areas for injured or lost persons. We support cave rescue in the Inchnadamph area. We have vehicles and equipment to support this. A number of members are also trained to search with dogs through SARDA and with drones through SARAA. We co-operate closely with Police Scotland, SAR Coastguard Helicopters and Scottish Cave Rescue Organisation and support any requests for assistance with neighbouring Mountain Rescue Teams
