02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Greener Orkney is committed to reducing Orkney’s carbon footprint and raising awareness of climate change through practical action and education. We run two community fridges to prevent food waste and organise regular beach cleans to tackle marine litter. As members of the Scottish Islands Federation, we have researched local marine litter and work with partners to develop a circular economy. Since May 2025, we have operated a repair café to promote reuse and reduce waste. These initiatives help protect the environment and educate our community on how they can make a difference

The advancement of education by presenting workshops, lectures and lessons on a range of environmental matters to improve the community?s knowledge of climate change and how they can make a difference.
