02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The charity is set up to enhance wellbeing and health, including mental health in the community to allow the elderly to stay at home for as long as possible in this rural community where many people live alone with no family nearby. We achieve this by running weekly specialised exercise classes, tai chi, chair yoga, boccia, a choir and lunch. Most of the funds for this come from the HSCP. We use a fully qualified exercise instructor. We collect people in our own minibus. We also organise several outings during the year, visit people at home and are aware of any help they may need. The outings include such as cinema visits or trips to lunch or shopping venues. At the regular Thursday meetings we invite in outside entertainment several times a year. We also provide a mental health counselling service using fully trained professionals. This is primarily funded by money from the TSI but is also topped up from our own unrestricted funds. We also support a preventative exercise class.
