02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Through Oxenfoord International SCIO, Artistic Director Malcolm Martineau OBE leads a team of distinguished tutors and coaches in a week-long summer course for singers and pianists. Bursaries are awarded to students to attend the course. other individuals pay fees for specialist tuition. Access to such education is open to both amateurs and aspiring professional adults, with no age limitation. Oxenfoord International supports and nurtures musicians who are in the early stages of their career by providing bursaries for the course, and supports amateur musicians in enhancing their individual abilities by providing access to professional-level expertise and practices. It also aims to raise public awareness of emerging artists by providing performance platforms in a variety of contexts.

Constitutional objectives
The organisation's purposes are: 4.1 to advance, improve, develop and maintain public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects by any means the trustees see fit, principally by providing courses in singing and accompaniment. Access to the benefit of such education should be open both to amateurs and aspiring professionals and without age limitation and more specifically 4.1.1 to develop young musicians at an early stage of their career by the provision of bursaries for such courses 4.1.2 to encourage older amateur musicians to develop their appreciation of music by providing tuition 4.2 to advance public appreciation for emerging artists by providing performing opportunities to such artists 4. 3 to further such charitable purpose or purposes as the trustees in their absolute discretion shall think fit but in particular through the making of grants and donations.
