02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Provide a safe and welcoming space where men (although not exclusively men) can gather to socialise and make things. The men's shed promotes mental health and well-being which counters loneliness and depression. Members are referred by medical and care community.

Constitutional objectives
The purpose of the organisation is to provide recreational facilities and advance the social needs, health and well-being of people, particularly but not exclusively men, of all ages and backgrounds living in the area of benefit, which is defined by the boundaries of Penicuik Community Council, Howgate Community Council and Glencorse Parish, by: a) Creating, developing and maintaining a facility, namely a Men’s Shed. b) Offering opportunities to meet and undertake creative, physical, purposeful and recreational activities. c) Reducing isolation thus contributing to physical and mental wellbeing. d) Developing people’s capacity to share their skills and knowledge with others in the community.
