02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Our focus is to champion the wide values of heather moorland habitats. In understanding and integrating economic, social, and environmental needs, we strive to manage moorlands efficiently, effectively, and sensitively. We support and commission moorland research projects – each one providing vital information to help further our objectives. We disseminate the most up-to-date findings to land managers, practitioners, policy makers and the public. We are impartial and trusted to chair and facilitate meetings and gatherings where, sometimes disparate views on moorland management are shared and discussed. We recognise the importance of multiple land uses and seek to work with all sectors, including sporting interests, farming, forestry, renewables, recreation and conservation. We advise government agencies and participate in working groups to advance sustainable, resilient moorlands and host events aimed at furthering education, understanding and appreciation of our uplands.
