02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Cove in Bloom work to improve and enhance the area of Cove & Altens. We aim to make this an attractive and enjoyable place to live as well as celebrating the history of the area. The three historical industries are farming, largely in the Altens area. fishing, based in the old fishing village beside Cove Harbour. and quarrying, on the hillside above the harbour. In addition to the floral enhancements, we’ve added various displays to commemorate these industries, horse drawn ploughs and other implements for farming, standing heritage stones for quarrying, and a sculpture based around Isie Caie, who was the last fishwife in Cove, for the fishing industry. Further, we have a reminder of our more recent heritage by way of the oil industry ornaments at the community garden on Cove Road. We look after numerous beds, planters and other areas.

Constitutional objectives
The organisation's purposes are: The enhancement of public areas and areas to which the public have access within the community of Cove and Altens and its surrounding area and the advancement of environmental improvement, and in furtherance of this. To preserve the heritage of the area for the public benefit in the community of Cove and Altens. To educate and assist in horticultural activities and assist in improvement of the surroundings. To encourage the use by the public and management of these areas for the public benefit To work in partnership with other bodies to further these purposes.
