02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Mearns Minibus Link was initially set up to provide an efficient, affordable community transport system and to give community groups, not-for-profit organisations, and local residents who are rurally and socially isolated, access to a safe, reliable community minibus. Local people, especially those with mobility issues, can find it difficult to get out to attend activities or get to medical appointments so we give people the means to access facilities and opportunities that would otherwise be inaccessible to them. We have a small group of volunteer drivers who are all MiDAS trained (the nationally recognised Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) and we can also offer this training to representatives of local community groups. Any not-for-profit group can hire the minibus but their driver has to have a current MiDAS certificate. Our small minibus is also wheelchair-accessible and is well maintained and regularly checked.
