02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Strathnairn Development Company was formed in 2019. It is a community-owned organisation established to help develop the Strathnairn community. Our mission is to invest in the community in order to empower the current and next generation while respecting our heritage. We do that, by seeking community values, creating action plans and seeking necessary resources to invest in the future and provide long term, sustainable benefits for the community.

Constitutional objectives

Purposes 5 The Organisation has been formed for the public benefit of the Community of Strathnairn (“the Community”) as defined by the Highland Council under its Schemes for the Establishment of Community Councils, current in September 2018, of the Strathnairn Community Council (compliant with Section 34 (1A)(a) of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003), with the Purposes listed in Clause 6 below (“the Purposes”), to be exercised following the principles of sustainable development (where sustainable development means development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs). This is compliant with Section 34 (4) of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. 6 The Organisation’s main purpose is consistent with furthering the achievement of sustainable development. This includes assessing the need for, advocating for, providing advice for, and the execution of plans for, community development.
