02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Almost everyone believes they have a book in them but most don’t know how to start. Some people have started writing but don’t have the confidence to continue or finish the task. We aim to help all of them begin writing, and to improve their writing skills by running workshops, holding ‘open mic’ sessions to help people build their confidence in reading their stories aloud and receiving constructive feedback, and by publishing their stories and poetry in books and online. Most people affirm that writing improves their mental health and sharing their written work reduces loneliness. We want generally to persuade the public to write, and specifically encourage schoolchildren to write. Where resources permit, we run an annual competition for primary and secondary school students to write stories. the best stories are published in an anthology.
