02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Friends of the Sound of Jura seeks to promote the conservation of the marine environment, for the benefit of the coastal community it represents, and for others. On behalf of the community, we will gather information on threats to our marine environment, assess them rigorously and share this information with our supporters. We invite discussion in order to fairly represent the best interests of the community. We engage with policy-makers and decision-makers about specific issues of local concern and about national policies that have local repercussions. We run the Argyll Hope Spot project in conjunction with three other local marine conservation groups. This does education and outreach via artists' residencies and projects with primary schools, in and adjacent to the Hope Spot area
