02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Welcome Hut is an educational project built around the use of mobile shepherd's huts as encounter spaces for storytelling, artistic improvisation and imagination. As a pop-up civic sanctuary on wheels, the installation of the hut with its wood fire stove in communities and on campuses offers a setting for intergenerational togetherness as an educational gesture of hospitality. The use of the hut helps to facilitate dialogue between different groups and is used in local community work, during conferences as an inclusive sensory safe space and in university degrees for innovative teaching around applied professional practice in social work and education.
