02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Established in 1984, Moffat Museum is for the safeguarding, preservation & exhibition of objects & information likely to stimulate & support the advancement of education, heritage & culture through an interest & understanding of the history & heritage of Moffat & the surrounding district. It is run by 8 Trustees and volunteers, raising & managing funds, enabling access to the Museum for visitors by:- putting on exhibitions & talks. developing our website & social media. contributing to academic research. encouraging people to become involved in the work of the Museum. & working with other museums & with local groups/businesses to promote local history & heritage. The Museum owns its premises, & over the years our collections have grown to include many Objects, Images, Personal Recollections, Books & General Information. Since 2017, Moffat Museum has held full accreditation with Museums Galleries Scotland & Arts Council England, operating to the required industry standards.

Constitutional objectives

4 The organisation's purposes are: 4.1 To ensure the existence of a Museum in Moffat for the proper safeguarding, preservation and exhibition of objects and information likely to stimulate interest in the history and character of the town of Moffat and surrounding district. 4.2 To support the advancement of education, heritage and culture through an understanding of history and heritage particularly, although not exclusively, in relation to Moffat and the surrounding district.
