02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Melrose Music Festival exists to share the joy of music, promoting high-quality music by established and emerging musicians of all genres and encouraging involvement, especially by young people, in musical appreciation, participation, and composition. This work takes place throughout the year through programme development, fund-raising, and publicity and culminates in a ten-day festival in Melrose in the Scottish Borders in September.

Constitutional objectives

The organisation’s purposes are the advancement of music and associated arts in the Scottish Borders and beyond. This shall be achieved chiefly but not limited to the following: i) Supporting and encouraging amateur music making in the Borders. ii) Bringing professional musicians of acclaim to the Borders. iii) Supporting and encouraging music making amongst children and young people in the Borders.
