02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The charity provides horticultural training and meaningful, work-related activities for adults and children who require additional support. It aims to build confidence, promote independence, and support social rehabilitation through practical, hands-on learning. Operating as a day service, the charity accepts referrals from Social Work Care Managers and via direct referral. Governance is provided by a Board of seven Trustees, with services delivered by a team of around ten staff. The charity operates across three sites in Aberdeenshire: Ballogie, Glen Tanar, and Banchory. Training includes growing produce, garden maintenance, propagation, and tool care. Co-workers also create and sell horticultural and craft products online, at markets, and through the shop at Banchory, developing retail skills while supporting sustainability. With funding support, the charity has also run wellbeing groups for adults experiencing mental ill-health, recovering from illness, or social isolation.
