02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The charity is dedicated to its mission of empowering families from diverse backgrounds through engaging social and educational opportunities. Over the past year, we have concentrated on four primary initiatives: the BAME Women Food Festival & Well-being Project, the BAME Community Foodbank on Wheels, Connecting Communities Through Shared Stories, and the Wishaw, Motherwell & Shotts Families Well-being Community Projects. These efforts are closely aligned with our strategic objectives and have made a significant impact on our target beneficiaries.

Constitutional objectives

2. The association’s objects are: a) The relief of those in need through providing a means for women of all ethnicities, with a particular focus on migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, to come together and engage in social and learning opportunities that will reduce social isolation, support with disadvantages experienced and develop better understanding of women’s rights, particularly around oppressive cultural practices including, but not limited to, female genital mutilation and other relevant health matters. b) The promotion of socialisation amongst children, teenagers and young adults c) Support for the elderly in any way practicable including home visits, home calls and zoom hangouts d) Connecting people through a befriending outreach programmes for people (single mothers, young girls and the elderly) who have experienced significant adversity, helping them build their confidence so that they can thrive.
