02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

We work with local refugee communities to deliver various services assisting with education, mental health, socialising & integration,, distributing aid items, etc. This is done via regular gatherings & workshops throughout the year, working closely with other organisations incl. Edinburgh Council to ensure efficient delivery of services. We work with refugees of all backgrounds, age groups & genders & encourage their input to best understand their needs. We are predominantly run by volunteers.

Constitutional objectives

7.1 The SCIO will promote, advance and further its Charitable purposes, by delivering services and activities itself or providing a platform to support individuals or other organisations which provide a public benefit ordinarily in Scotland. 7.2 In providing its activities, the Charity Trustees will set out (ordinarily with a medium to long term outlook) a strategic theme to the SCIO’s activities to provide focus on a theme to assist the SCIO best create Charitable impact in society and for its members. 7.3 The strategic theme will be identified from among the Charitable purposes as set out in clause 7.3 below. 7.4 For the purposes of the 2005 Act the following charitable purposes are the charitable purposes identified as applicable to the SCIO from section 7 of the 2005 Act:- 7.4.2 the advancement of education. 7.4.9 the provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended. 7.4.14 the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
