02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
I set up Safebase because I could see people in our communities becoming vulnerable or getting into difficulty and there was a gap between someone needing help and the point where the emergency services needed to become involved. The idea was simple: have trained volunteers out in the community who could step in early, provide first aid, welfare and practical support, and help keep people safe. Over time this has grown into the charity we have today. We now support people through our night-time economy work, community events and welfare activities, working closely with Police Scotland, local authorities, emergency services, businesses and other charities. At the heart of Safebase is still the same reason I started it: being there when someone needs help, preventing situations from becoming worse and making our communities safer.
