02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Charity is set up primarily to promote and encourage young persons up to the age of 25 years to participate in playing rugby and other sports in the communities of Lasswade and Bonnyrigg and elsewhere in Midlothian by securing financial resources to run rugby festivals, Easter and Summer rugby camps, seek sponsorship from local businesses and take part in community activities such as litter-picking, bag packing etc. Also to work with Lasswade Rugby Club to promote rugby-related sporting activities by using their facilities including the use of indoor or outdoor areas for the purposes set out as above, while remaining independent of each other.

Constitutional objectives

The organisation's purposes are: 4.1 to advance inclusive public participation in sport through the promotion, practising, development and playing of Rugby Football and other sports, by pupils in schools and persons up to the age of 25 years, residing in the communities of Lasswade, Bonnyrigg and District, and elsewhere in Midlothian. In furtherance thereof, the organisation shall seek to procure funding to support initiatives designed to develop participation by children and young people as above in the sport of rugby, in a safe and secure environment, to nurture their talents and encourage their continuing involvement in sport into adulthood and beyond, in the interests of social welfare and for the benefit of the community. and 4.2 to support provision of recreational facilities, events and organised sporting pursuits intended to promote the development of personal life-skills, team-working, self-discipline, social inter-action and inclusion, thereby to improve the well-being, health, fitness and conditions of life for the communities of Lasswade, Bonnyrigg and District, and elsewhere in Midlothian, through participation in sporting, educational and social activities, all in furtherance of the purposes described in 4.1 above. The above objects shall be pursued, without distinction of race, creed, ethnicity, gender, nationality, sexual orientation and religious, political or other beliefs, by associating with local agencies and statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and clubs, governing bodies and inhabitants generally, in a common effort to advance education and social cohesion to improve the conditions of life for participants and the community in general.
