02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

We are helping to build a Compassionate Community by forging community bonds and creating meaningful connections to facilitate a stronger, happier community where every person has the opportunity to thrive. Our compassionate community is when people come together to support one another through life’s challenges, including grief, loss, and loneliness. It’s a network that ensures no one feels isolated, where everyone—regardless of age or background—feels connected, valued, and supported. Coastal Community Connections provides a range of activities, helping people to build connections that matter.

Constitutional objectives

The purposes for which the Charity is established are to advance the physical and mental health of people (without distinction of religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, race and disability) in the North Berwick Coastal area by addressing social isolation and loneliness through: i. Receiving referrals from local General Practitioners, other health professionals and community organisations and agencies and individuals (including self-referrals). ii. Assisting members to connect with local activities and organisations in order that they might engage and integrate into the community. iii. Working with relevant agencies to help develop local initiatives to reduce loneliness and isolation. iv. Establishing, operating and supporting peer groups and networks engaging people who are isolated or lonely, people who may need emotional support through anxiety, loss of contact and those who may be bereaved. v. Maintaining a register of local organisations and activities to which members might be connected. vi. Undertaking, as the charity shall from time to time determine, all other things as are charitable in law for the attainment of the purposes.
