02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Folan Trust was set up in 2020 to help to meet the need for people affected by homelessness to be supported to work through the severe and unresolved trauma that often underlies their crises. It provides long-term, trauma-informed, one-to-one, counselling. Our work in Glasgow supports the psychological, emotional and relational needs of some of the city’s most vulnerable people. This includes people affected by gender-based violence, sex working and addiction for whom personal and systemic barriers commonly result in their exclusion from psychological services. Staff are fully trained and experienced therapists and registered with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy. They seek to understand individuals in the context of their early life, ACEs, relationships and trauma and to support people to develop the psychological capacities and resources to relieve their suffering and sustain a route out of homelessness and poverty.
