02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The SCIO was formed to raise the necessary funds to purchase Kirkmaiden Old Parish Church from the Church of Scotland due to their disposing of buildings. In the last financial year we raised the necessary funds, £45,000 from pledges. Now in ownership of the building we intend to use it as a community space available to be used by the local community. We intend to have events such as concerts, arts and crafts events, talks. It can be used for weddings, funerals, naming ceremonies. We have a link with the local primary school for project works and education. It is widely visited by people looking for ancestors.

Constitutional objectives
The Organisation has been formed to benefit the communities of Drummore, Portlogan and surrounding areas. Also all those who have a vested interest in the future of the Old Kirk because of family history and the preservation of the history of Kirk Covenant Church ,1637, for future generations. ('the Community'), with the following purposes ('the Purposes'): ('the Community'), with the Purposes listed in the sub-clauses hereto ('the Purposes'), to be exercised following the principles of sustainable development (where sustainable development means development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs), namely: 4.1 The advancement of education 4.2 The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science 4.3 The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities
