02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
BUTA Azerbaijan-Scotland Association exists to connect and strengthen the Azerbaijani community in Scotland The charity is aiming at building bridges of understanding with the wider Scottish public. We do this by promoting Azerbaijani language, culture and heritage through community events, educational activities, cultural programs. We run regular women's gatherings to reduce isolation and build connection, we are developing weekend sessions for children and adults focused on language learning, cultural identity, community belonging. We also support community members with information and signposting and advocate for civic participation and voluntary engagement. Through all of this, we work to ensure that Azerbaijani heritage has a valued place within Scotland's multicultural society.

To advance citizenship through the development and teaching of civic values. the promotion or protection of the rights of the citizens. the encouragement of voluntary activity and increasing the involvement of individuals in community activity. To advance education by delivering teaching programmes in the Azerbaijani language and to promote understanding about the Azerbaijani culture and heritage to the younger generation and the wider general public. To advance the arts, heritage and culture by promoting Azerbaijani culture as part of the multicultural landscape of Scotland.
